GROUP SHOW, Speculative Histories OPENED march 28, 2021 AT The Cranbrook House, Bloomfield Hills, MI

The Twelve Sisters (Bookmarks) 2021 — Embroidery floss, sequins, beads, watercolor, and Jewish menstrual cloths, 3 x 12 inches, each.

The Twelve Sisters (bookmarks) is a site-specific installation in the library at the Cranbrook House. Nestled within the religion and psychology section of George and Ellen Booth’s library, the Twelve Sisters protest living trapped hidden inside these outdated, patriarchal books, and instead flutter freely in the air. Each bookmark is embroidered with names of one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, regendered into their feminine names as inspired by Beit Toratah, The Regendered Torah. Each tribe is paired with it’s associated constellation (with regards to the Hebrew Calendar) and inspired by the nouveau riche style zodiac mural painted on the ceiling of the library.
