SEEING THE SACRED: MAKING SHIVITIS

SUNDAYS, FEB 8, 15 & 22, 10:30AM-12PM @ KOL TZEDEK, WEST PHILLY, PA

In Jewish tradition, a shiviti is an artistic meditation aid, often inscribed with sacred words to focus the mind and heart on the Divine. Part prayer, part artwork, they are created to keep sacred words at the center of our vision. In this hands-on workshop series, we’ll explore the Shema alongside feminist reinterpretations of prayer and Toratah, and discuss how liturgy can express our deepest values. Then, guided by our learning, we’ll create our own personalized shivitis — no art experience needed — turning prayer into a work of art.
